Khartoum criticizes US law allowing food support for southern opposition
Sudan-USA, Politics, 12/2/1999
The Sudanese government denounced today the new US law that permits providing rebels in southern Sudan with foodstuffs directly, a matter which caused anxiety to the Arab states.
The amendment in the US foreign trade laws allows the distribution of foodstuffs and humanitarian aid directly to the fighters in the Sudanese army's lines in the south.
Sudanese Information Minister Ghazi Salah Al-Din said, "It is another sign proving that the USA directly interferes in the war in south Sudan," adding that this is considered a direct contribution in the war as the armies rely on food as they do on weapons, therefore it is considered a US contribution to the war."
