Arab League assistant secretary general asks Israel to support peace process
Regional, Politics, 12/2/1999

The assistant secretary general for Palestine's affairs in the Arab League, Said Kamal told ArabicNews.com today that, "Achieving the peace in the Middle East is not linked to signing the documents and declaring good words, but it is related to achieving a balance in the interests of the area's people that opens the door before a real cooperation and coexistence."

He said, "Of the most important components of establishing peace in the Middle East and its continuation is the positive role of the international community and its effective power in urging and supporting the other sides to go on in the peace process."

Kamal added, "The Arab League regards the European role and supports it to push forward the peace process."

He also criticized the US continuation as a traditional strategic ally for Israel and its non-neutrality in the peace process.
