Iraqi opposition called on for plenary meeting
Iraq, Politics, 12/2/1999

The Middle (al-Wasat) Democratic Trend has announced the "intensification of efforts to revitalize the role of the Iraqi opposition," through "convening an actual plenary meeting and drawing a document that can explain the objectives, the principles and the work plan for the coming phase," after good preparations.

In a statement, of which the London-based al-Hayat daily received a copy, "al-Wasat" stressed its previously-declared objectives like "establishing a multilateral democratic system, recognition of the right of the Kurdish people to self-determination and lifting the economic sanctions from Iraq."

The statements announced the formation of a "coordination committee from Saad Saleh Jaber, Aref Abdul Razzaq, Adnan al-Baja Jee, Abdul Razzaq al-Ali, Ghassan al-Ateyah and Muhammad al-Zaher."
