Arab League chief calls for Arab information technology scheme
Regional, Science, 11/29/1999

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid called on Sunday for drawing up a comprehensive Arab scheme to develop the sector of information technology in the Arab states.

Addressing the Information Technology Conference, co-sponsored by the AL, Abdul Meguid said the information revolution could be useful in activating joint Arab action, adding that the website networks and the Internet could be useful in upgrading the performance of various institutions.

The AL has taken part, in coordination with the international development research center in Canada, in developing one of the programs, known as "Minizis" and helped in Arabizing it.

The AL secretary general stressed the need for cooperation between the Arab League and other regional and international organizations to Arabize computer programs.

The three-day conference is designed to map out an Arab information strategy for the third millennium.
