Islamic parliamentary union to meet in Morocco
Morocco-Iran, Politics, 11/27/1999

The Islamic Parliamentary Union will hold its second assembly shortly in Morocco, said in Rabat Friday the visiting speaker of the Iranian parliament, Ali Akbar Nateq-Nouri.

At a press conference, the Iranian official praised efforts made by Morocco to create the union which held its constitutive assembly last July in Tehran.

Nateq-Nouri, who was received by King Mohammed VI, said the meeting was "constructive and positive," adding that the development of Moroccan-Iranian relations will have a positive impact on inter-Islamic cooperation. He also argued that bilateral cooperation should be enhanced to match the "excellent" political relations. He went on that he reviewed with Moroccan officials preparations for the holding of the joint commission to give a new impetus to trade and economic cooperation.

To a question on the Sahara issue, he said his country supports the holding of a U.N referendum in the territory.
