President Diouf receives message from king Mohammed
Morocco-Senegal, Politics, 11/27/1999

President Abdou Diouf of Senegal received Friday a verbal message from King Mohammed VI.

The message was conveyed by Moroccan minister of habous (endowments) and Islamic affairs, Abdelkebir Alaoui Mdaghri, who is currently visiting Dakar to take part in the cultural days held this week end by the Tidjane confraternity on the topic "The Tidjane Dakar coordination's tribute to late King Hassan II."

During the meeting, President Diouf voiced admiration for "the happy initiatives" taken by King Mohammed VI, who took up the torch and said that Senegal was the extension of of Morocco and Morocco was the extension of Senegal.

Bilateral cooperation and the longstanding and excellent ties binding the Moroccan and Senegalese peoples were also brought up.

Mdaghri will also convey to the Tidjane cultural days, held under the aegis of King Mohammed VI, a message from the sovereign.

The Tidjane cultural days are an annual event in the memory of Sidi Ahmed Tidjani, founder of the confraternity who passed away in 1852 and who is buried in Fez.

Kings of the Alaouite dynasty have always backed religious confraternities and particularly the Tidjane Tarika, whose founder Sidi Ahmed Tidjani, spread the sufism philosophy throughout Africa.

Sidi Ahmed Tidjani memorized the Koran at an early age and travelled a lot across the continent before he settled in Fez wherefrom he continued to spread the principles of the Tarika Tidjani which advocates the consolidation of faith, peace, justice and unity of Muslims, MAP reported.
