Regional, Politics, 11/25/1999
The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) condemned and denounced the war of extermination waged against the Moslem people of Chechnya, the physical elimination and the savage aggression perpetrated by the Russian forces, MAP reported.
The MAP report said "The Rabat-based organization, which held the 20th session of its executive council in Rabat earlier this week, renewed full solidarity with the Moslem brothers in Chechnya and appealed to the international community to intervene swiftly, through international agencies and the Security Council, to bring pressure to make the government of Russia halt its aggression against this Moslem people."
The report said "ISESCO's executive council also launched an appeal to the Islamic World to take positive initiatives to express active solidarity with the people of Chechnya, and to support and assist them, through international organizations, and charitable agencies."
The report said ISESCO called the war in Chechnya "a blatant aggression" that contradicts all international laws."
The report said The Executive Council of ISESCO hailed the initiatives of some governments, international organizations and mass media which have condemned the Russian aggression against the people of Chechnya and have taken initiative to bring the aggression to an end."
The report said The Executive Council of ISESCO believes that showing Islamic solidarity with the people of Chechnya is a religious duty and a humane necessity, as well as a fair and just claim which does not run counter to the spirit of international law."
The MAP report said "The Executive Council of ISESCO appeals to the entire Islamic world to take a positive step as required by Islamic solidarity and brotherliness."
