Moroccan human rights organization asks for international fact-finding mission in tindouf camps
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 11/25/1999
The Moroccan human rights organization (OMDH) has asked the International federation of human rights leagues to send a fact-finding mission to investigate human rights abuses in the Lahmada camps in Tindouf (stronghold of the Polisario in southwestern Algeria).
An OMDH statement recalls that Amnesty International compiled in 1996 a report denouncing serious human rights violations, mainly arbitrary detention, torture and repression cases by the Polisario. Since then, the OMDH said, international non-governmental organizations have not sent any fact-finding mission to Tindouf, Algerian authorities having denied them authorization to visit the camps.
OMDH is member to the federation of human rights leagues.
