Arab League: Turkey's interference in northern Iraq interference in Iraq's internal affairs
Regional-Iraq, Politics, 11/24/1999
Sultan El-Shawi, Iraq's permanent delegate at the Arab League, said that Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohamed Said al-Sahaf addressed recently a message to Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid regarding the Turkish interference in northern Iraq, adding that the Arab League clearly affirmed through its repeated declarations that this interference is considered an interference in Iraq's internal affairs and a violation of its regional safety, assuring that this assault cannot be justified in any way because eventually it is an assault on a state's sovereignty, saying that the justification repeated by Turkey is unacceptable.
El-Shawi said the assassination, threat and depriving Iraqi citizens' freedom by the Turkish forces in the Iraqi areas are considered violations of the principle of sovereignty, and interference in Iraq's internal affairs violates the UN charter and rules of international law.
