France denounces Hachani assassination
Algeria-France, Politics, 11/24/1999

French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine has announced that the assassination of a leader in the banned Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) in Algiers reveals that various groups are using various means to obstruct the peace process in Algeria.

In a statement to the French LCA TV on Tuesday, Vedrine added that the civil concord policy sought by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has been persistently confronted by various groups that do not want this change and do not want Algeria to come out of this crisis.

He added, "We do not have to think that this act of assassination will make Bouteflika change the line he has already drawn."

Abdelkader Hachani, the third man in the FIS, was killed in two bullets in his head and chest in a dental clinic in Ban al-Wad avenue in Algiers on Monday.
