Israeli Knesset member acknowledges right of the Palestinians to return home
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 11/23/1999

Member of the Israeli Knesset for the Labor Party, Yossi Katz, has stated that the Palestinian people have suffered occupation and he asked Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak's government to admit being behind the pain and suffering of the Palestinians.

During his visit on Sunday to a Palestinian camp in occupied Jerusalem together with the Palestinian official for Jerusalem, Faisal al-Husseini, Katz asserted the idea of allowing the Palestinian refugees to return home.

Meanwhile, Barak on Sunday said the Palestinians "can issue their own currency and can also have a separate economy apart from the Israeli economy."

Barak added in a speech he made before the US Jewish Organizations that he suggests "separation of the Palestinian economy from the Israeli economy," admitting thereby that the "Palestinians will not accept total merging of the Israeli economy and the Israeli currency."
