Regional, Politics, 11/23/1999
Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid has warned against the policy pursued by Israel, reflected in continuing its settlement policy, confiscating new Arab lands and violations of Palestinian and Arab people's human rights.
In statements he made on Sunday in Cairo following his meeting with the visiting German minister of defense, Rudolf Scharping, the AL chief called on Germany and the European Union member states to play a constructive role to support the Middle East peace process and urge Israel to end its anti-peace policy.
The German minister stressed the importance of investing time in the forthcoming period before the American and Russian Middle East peace process cosponsors get to be preoccupied by their presidential elections.
Meanwhile, the AL chief met with the Arab ministers of social affairs, currently meeting in Cairo and discussed with them means of overcoming certain difficulties that are hindering the execution of the Arab social labor projects and ways of ending certain financial problems.
