Hamas criticizes deportation of four of its leaders to Qatar
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 11/22/1999
The Hamas resistance movement said that the Jordanian authorities' expulsion of four high-ranking officials in Hamas is illegal, saying these four are Jordanian citizens and tat the decision to deport them to Qatar yesterday violates the Jordanian constitution.
The spokesman of Hamas, Mahmud El-Zahar, said this procedure will not affect Hamas' activities because its area of influence is the Palestinian lands.
The expelled officials are among more than 20 members of the movement who were detained since the closure of Hamas' offices by the Jordanian authorities in Amman during August.
They were accused of conducting illegal activities like possessing firearms and provoking extremist Islamic feeling.
