Baz calls on Israel to give up nuclear program
Egypt, Politics, 11/20/1999
Presidential Political Advisor Osama Al Baz called on Israel to give up its nuclear program once reaching agreements with Arab states, stressing the danger of such program, in particular, with many radiation leakage.
Baz denied stories circulated by Israeli newspapers alleging that Egypt is getting ready to rush into war against Israel, affirming that Egypt has full right to upgrade its armed forces and provide it with sophisticated weapons.
Baz noted that Israel is armed with the most sophisticated weapons, despite the fact that it is used to reiterate that it wants peace. He said that Egypt was the first country to walk the peace march, believing in peace as the strategic option to bring about stability in the region.
Baz reiterated Egypt's unshakable stance regarding the unity of Sudan, rejecting the partition of the sisterly country, which constitutes the strategic depth of Egypt. He called on the Sudanese regime to create popular stand on the unity of the Sudanese people, expounded that this end will not be achieved unless through enlarging political participation to include all opposition parties in Sudan.
Baz said that the US rejected the Egyptian-Libyan initiative to solve the crisis in Sudan because it deems this issue as an internal affair, while the initiative stresses the unity of Sudan, an official statement said.
