US projects in southern Morocco focus on social aspects
Morocco, Economics, 11/20/1999

Support to micro-enterprise, water management and children health promotion are the major aspects where the US Agency for International Development is focusing its actions in southern Morocco.

US ambassador in Morocco, Edward Gabriel, visited Friday two projects to which the USAID is contributing, mainly a waste water treatment plant, to which the USA is contributing 70% and a children health center jointly financed by the World Health Organization and the USAID. The center, launched in 1998, is set to reduce infant mortality by promoting the awareness of women on children diseases and literacy activities.

The ambassador also dedicated a USAID-approved micro-loaning institution for small enterprises.

In a press conference, the US ambassador voiced his country's readiness to support Moroccan social efforts and to diversify and consolidate economic cooperation.
