Moussa denies existence of crisis between USA and Egypt on airplane crash
Egypt, Politics, 11/20/1999
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa denied the existence of a crisis between the USA and Egypt regarding the crash of an EgyptAir jet on October 31, describing what has been repeated about a crisis as mere predictions based on incorrect conclusions.
Moussa also said yesterday after his meeting with US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on the margin of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) summit in Istanbul, "I do not think that there is a crisis, yet there is an intensive work required."
Neantime, pilot Mamdouh Heshment, chairman of the Egyptian civil aviation sector, and Mourad Shawki, head of analyzing accidents in the air safety sector in the Egyptian civil aviation organization, came back yesterday evening from the USA after participating in the Egyptian committee which followed up on the crash of EgyptAir flight 990 into the Atlantic Ocean.
Meshmat and Shawki refused to make any press statements, saying that there is an agreement between Egypt and the USA against jumping to conclusions and declaring any developments regarding the accident until after reaching a complete conception of the accident.
