Ministerial commission meets over amendments to public freedoms law
Morocco, Politics, 11/19/1999

A ministerial commission held last Tuesday a meeting chaired by Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi to look into draft amendments to the public freedoms law.

A statement of the prime minister's office said the meeting heard a presentation by the human rights minister, Mohamed Aujjar, on the bases of the amendment proposals that could cover the laws on associations and public gatherings.

These proposals are in tune with the constitution, the king's speeches and instructions, the government's statement and the international conventions signed by Morocco. Amendment proposals also took into account grievances of Moroccan non-governmental organizations and the country's practices in public freedoms.

The meeting also heard a presentation on the press code by the communication minister, Mohamed Larbi Messari.

The prime minister called the commission to carry on debates to reach a text that marches ongoing social mutations in Morocco, aspirations of the civil society and requirements of the present political situation to consolidate democracy and the rule of law.
