Oman to diversify economy as it celebrates 29th National Day pageant
Oman, Politics, 11/19/1999
Rallies and festivities were held on Thursday in all parts of Oman commemorating the 29th anniversary of the accession of the Sultan Qaboos of Oman to power in 1970.
The Oman News Agency said, "Oman has realized under the leadership of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said a qualitative turning point in all areas," and that it has changed from a country which does not have the minimum necessary services before 1970 into a state enjoying a regional and international position.
On the economic level, the Oman News Agency added that Sultan Qaboos has been trying for 15 years to diversify the sources of income to the country instead of maintaining full reliance on the oil and that Muscat will start to export gas by the beginning of the year 2000 to South Korea.
