Israel bombards Lebanese infrastructure, resistance forces retaliate
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 11/19/1999

The Lebanese resistance on Thursday retaliated for Israeli attacks with a series of attacks against Israeli armored vehicles, and direct hits were achieved.

Lebanese security sources said the occupation forces renewed their bombardment of villages adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon and that losses in houses, properties, electricity grid networks and the infrastructure were inflicted.

Simultaneously, Lebanon has asserted its commitment to its legitimate right to continue resisting the occupation and called for the implementation of UN resolution 425, which provides for Israel's complete withdrawal from south Lebanon, unconditionally, and stressed the need for cohesion between the Syrian and Lebanese tracks in the peace process.

Meanwhile, the foreign relations committee at the Lebanese Parliament met on Thursday under the chairmanship in the presence of Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss.

The committee reviewed current contacts made concerning the peace process, especially those made by French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine and the director of the Middle East department at the US State Department.

Al-Hoss briefed members of the committee on the latest contacts pertaining to the peace process and the ideas conveyed by the delegates concerning the Israeli proposals which he said are always "obstructing the process."

He said these contacts have not resulted in any initiative but remained the framework for making explanatory talks as the main obstacle remains that Israel refuses to return to the table of negotiations from the point it halted at and does not want to recognize former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's deposit.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation forces on Thursday continued their attacks against areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon.

Lebanese security sources said the occupation artillery bombarded the outskirts of Kafra, Yater, Serbin, and Wadi al-Dib, using heavy shelling.

In the morning, the Israeli forces shelled the towns of Majdal Soloum, al-Sawannah, Khurbet Suloum, Wadi al-Qeyseyeh, Barachit, Tabnin, Eita al-Jabal and Wadi al-Zaatar. The bombardment also covered Tallat Shamaa and the outskirts of Zibqin, Jibal al-Butoum, Jib Sweid and al-Rahrah towns.

Lebanese security forces said the Israeli forces also bombarded the entrance of Majdal Zoun town in the western sector, and the bombardment resulted in damaging the electricity grid in the town.

The bombardment also covered the heights of Jabal al-Daher, al-Ahmadeyah farm, the outskirts of Qelya, al-Dallafah, Jabal al-Qitran heights and al-Sareira woods in the western Bekaa.

The bombardment coincided with mopping-up operations in which the Israeli forces used machine guns against al-Hasbani valley, Meimas crossing and the Zoya- Marj al-Zuhour road.

Meantime, the Israeli warplanes flew in the airspace of south Lebanon and carried out mock and provocative raids in al-Nabatiyeh and al-Tuffah district.

Further news reports from south Lebanon said that several Israeli gunships opened fire against the Lebanese fishing boats in Raas al-Ein district.
