Addis Ababa holds Asmara responsible for train explosion
Ethiopia-Eritrea, Politics, 11/19/1999
The Ethiopian government held Eritrea responsible for exploding a train on the railway linking Addis Ababa and Djibouti last Saturday.
A high-ranking Ethiopian source told the London-based al-Hayat daily that the Ethiopian authorities arrested several members of the "Oromo Liberation Front" of the Ethiopian opposition backed by Eritrea. The source added that an investigation continues to arrest other members behind the explosion.
On Saturday Ethiopia announced the killing of the train's driver and the wounding of his assistant during the explosion which took place in Milka Jeido area, 12 km from Deirdao, in eastern Ethiopia.
The same source accused Eritrea's government of backing the Oromo Liberation Front for carrying out the explosions and destabilizing Ethiopia's security and stability.
