Assistance to development and more investments would curb illegal emigration, Italian MPs
Morocco-Italy, Economics, 11/18/1999

A visiting Italian parliamentary delegation argued that assistance in development and encouraging investments are the best approaches to curb illegal emigration.

At a meeting with Moroccan minister of relations with the parliament, Ahmed Bouzoubaa, the head of the Moroccan-Italian parliamentary friendship association, Ivo Tarolli said the two countries need to join efforts to address the problem of Moroccan illegal immigrants in Italy.

After he recalled that his country has swapped a part of Moroccan debts owed to Italy into investments, he announced that Morocco will be one of the largest recipients of the assistance provided in the coming finance bill.

The Moroccan minister praised the Italian authorities' positive attitude towards the 130,000 strong Moroccan community living in Italy.

The Italian Mps surveyed with other Moroccan officials and parliamentarians the kingdom economic reforms to drain foreign investments.

The Middle east peace process and stability and peace in the Mediterranean were topics of talks between the Italian representatives and Mohamed Jalal Essaid and Abdelouahed Radi, speakers of the two chambers of the Moroccan parliament.
