Three Jordanian journalists apologize for visiting Israel
Jordan, Politics, 11/18/1999
Three Jordanian journalists on Wednesday submitted an implicit apology to their union over visiting Israel and thereby avoided being expelled from the union and prevented from continuing their career over their violating the decision of the journalists' union which refuses normalization of relations with Israel by visiting Israel.
In the memorandum of apology the three journalists said, "We do not claim that what we have done (visiting Israel) is the right decision. We had visited Israel to make a press work and we did not for a moment thought of making normalization. This is what we had done. There might be criticism which we do accept and honor and there also might be mistakes we did not see, and we are ready to maintain dialogue over them so as to eliminate them."
The Jordanian Journalists Union gave the choice to Jihad al-Mou'mini, Sultan Hattab and Abdullah Hasanat to choose either to be expelled from the union or to apologize before 6 p.m. yesterday.
At the beginning of September the three Jordanian journalists accepted an invitation from Haifa University to take part in an annual meeting bringing together Arab and Israeli journalists.
