Syrian-Iraqi oil pipeline to be opened soon

The London-based al-Hayat daily said on Wednesday, quoting oil sources, that the measures to inaugurate the Syrian-Iraqi oil pipelines which will transport some 300,000 barrels of oil per day from the Iraqi Karkouk oil field to the Syrian port of Banias and which were closed in the 1980s are in their final stages and only 10 kilometers are left after the three main pumping stations are maintained.

The paper reported that economic sources estimated the amounts of Syrian oil reserves which can be produced at 507 million cubic meters, while production amounts at the end of last year were estimated at 252 million cubic meters and the amount of remaining reserves is 255 million cubic meters. The rate of production in regard to reserves at the end of the current year is 51.47%.

The sources expected production to continue until the year 2010, and that the total oil production of oil in Syria is 600,000 barrels every day, 320,000 of which are exported.
