Erekat: Israeli obstinacy aims at creating precedent for the coming stage
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 11/17/1999
Saeb Erekat, the Palestinian minister of local government and head of the Palestinian side in negotiations of the transitional stage told ArabicNews.com that the Israeli obstinacy regarding the current stage of Israeli redeployment aims at creating a precedent for the coming stage that Israel decides unilaterally on the lands from which it must withdraw.
Erekat stated that the Palestinians refuse this, saying that these stances are absolutely refused.
The second stage of redeployment according to the Sharm El-Sheikh accord was delayed this week due to the Israeli refusal to reconsider the maps for the withdrawal and to respond to the demands of the Palestinian side that the lands from which the withdrawal will take place, which account for 5% of the West Bank, are more vital and are inhabited.
