241 films, international stars, head to Cairo International Film Festival

The administration of the 23rd session of the Cairo International Film Festival, which will be held between November 24 and December 7, chose 16 films from 13 countries to participate in the official competition of the festival out of 241 films that were presented for participation.

These films were chosen by a spectator committee, which is comprised of Egyptian movie stars and critics.

Egypt, France and the USA are participating with two films each, while Algeria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Iran, Ireland, Holland, the Philippines, China, Russia and the UK are participating with one film for each country.

Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmi, the chairman of the festival said that French actor Alain Delon, Italian actress Greta Sakaki, French actress Catherine Denieve, British actor Peter O'Toole, Italian actress Valeria Guilino and Egyptian actor Omar El-Sherif were chosen to be guests of honor at the festival.

Forty-two countries will take part in the 32nd Cairo International Film Festival which will be held during the period from November 24 to December 7.

"157 films will be shown in the festival," cinema star Hussein Fahmi, Chairman of the festival, told a press conference on Monday.

France will have the largest number of films 23 films) followed by the United States (19 films), Spain (12 films) and Germany (9 films).

Egypt will show two films: "The Land of Fear" and "The Market of Pleasure" which has been produced in collaboration with the Radio and Television Union.

Four comedy films will also be shown: I Love You, Hassan, Si Omar, Wife no 13, and The Avocato. An American film will be shown at the inauguration ceremony.
