Annan names new UNIFIL commander

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has appointed Commander for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Major General Seth Kofi Obeng of Ghana will take over UNIFIL as as of December 1, replacing Major General Jioje Konousi Konrote of Fiji, who held the post from October 1, 1997 to September 1, 1999. Major General Obeng had served as Force Commander of the United Nations Observer Mission in Angola (MONUA) from May 1, 1998 to October 31, 1999.
