Saudi Arabia: Border problem with Yemen to end soon
Saudi Arabia-Yemen, Politics, 11/17/1999
Saudi Minister of Defense Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz has asserted that Saudi - Yemeni relations are at their best and that the question of borders will be settled within the coming months.
In a statement to the Saudi daily al-Riyadh issued on Tuesday, the Saudi minister said, "Hopefully, everybody will understand that there are no problems that hinder reaching a final solution in the question of borders to serve the interests of the two peoples and countries in Saudi Arabia and Yemen."
On the relations between the Arab Gulf states and Iran, the Saudi minister said that the attitude in the GCC member states toward relations with Iran is that Iran is a sisterly country and the Gulf states wish to have relations with Iran characterized by good neighborhood and cooperation in all areas of concern to the GCC states, especially "the question of the three islands," over which directives were adopted by the higher council of the GCC leaders which urge Iran to end the question of the islands, either through negotiations or in resorting to peaceful means to settle the disputes.
