UNDP to help in revamping Moroccan supreme court
Morocco, Judicial, 11/16/1999
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has agreed on Monday to help in a more modern management of the Moroccan supreme court.
The UNDP project consists of a new information and management system, training technical staff, a modern system of legal and administrative documentation and further training for magistrates, court clerks and other employees.
Chairman of the Moroccan supreme court, Driss Dahhak, said the agreement is part of the court's administrative and judicial modernization which included the inception of a publication and judiciary documentation center which releases monthly statistics on the court work.
He added that these reforms are much needed to ensure a rapid handling of cases. Thanks to the UNDP cooperation, the number of unprocessed cases went down from 61,000 in 1997 to 51,000 in 1998 and presently their number does not exceed 46,000, he went on.
