Sudanese opposition: Campala conference could be postponed without peace initiatives coordination
Sudan, Politics, 11/15/1999
Official sources in the Sudanese opposition in Cairo said that the coming meeting of the opposition in Kampala, Udganda, scheduled for November 22, may be delayed unless Washington and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army, headed by John Garang, agree on merging and coordination between the two reconciliation initiatives: the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) initiative and the Libyan - Egyptian initiative.
The opposition sources added that unless the conference is preceded is by good preparation from all the opposition factions, no coordination mechanism will exist between the two initiatives and achieve positive results, saying that the Egyptian initiative is the only card in the hand of the northern opposition.
