Football: Morocco's Wydad club makes perilous trip to Tunisia for CAF Cup Final
Tunisia-Morocco, Sports, 11/13/1999
Morocco's club, Wydad of Casablanca, will play this Saturday in Tunis a decisive away match for the African Football Confederation (CAF) cup against the lethal team of Etoile du Sahel.
Wydad's coach, Baddou Zaki (renowned keeper of Morocco in the 1980's), will most likely line up a defensive tactic to foil the attacks of the Tunisian side, boasting one of the most talented players of Africa.
Wydad's star, Radouane Allali, who was booked twice in previous matches, will not be part of the team. But his absence will not be much felt, as Zaki will concentrate more on defending his team's odds, pending the return match two weeks later in Casablanca.
Both teams had painstakingly snatched qualification ticket for the final. Wydad went through after defeating Cameroon's Canon Yaounde in penalty kicks, while Etoile du Sahel made a narrow escape against the Egyptians of Zamalek.
The Wydad-Etoile match is a first leg of a Moroccan-Tunisian showdown of supremacy over African football. Casablanca's team, Raja, will play next month against Esperance of Tunis over the mouth-watering champions League trophy.
