Arab League discusses steps for issuing Palestinian currency
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 11/13/1999

A symposium for issuing a Palestinian currency concluded today in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The symposium lasted for two days under the auspices of Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid with the participation of the World Bank and Arab banks, funds and experts on economy and finance.

Mohammed Sobaih, Palestine's delegate at the AL, said the symposium discussed studies and research regarding currencies of the recently-independent countries and means of issuing these currencies. He added that economic experts from Egypt and Jordan are currently supporting the Palestinian government to start steps for issuing this currency.

Sobaih added that the currencies that exist inside the Palestinian lands currently are the US dollar, the Israeli shekel, the Jordanian dinar and the Egyptian pound which causes a clear confusion in the daily financial transactions.
