Arab mediation between Algeria and Morocco
Regional-Maghreb, Politics, 11/12/1999

Gulf sources stated today that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other Arab states are trying to mediate to improve the tense relations between Algeria and Morocco, saying that these states exert efforts to achieve an approach between Algeria and Morocco.

The sources did not identify the other countries participating in the mediation efforts between the neighbor states, which have conflicted for a long time due to a regional competition and non-confidence which dates to the 1960s.

Algeria and Morocco witnessed many visits by officials from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, as the Emerati information minister visited Algeria recently while Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah visited Algeria on October 11 to discuss with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika Riyadh's efforts to reduce the dispute gap between Algeria and Morocco.
