European concern with the Middle East and the peace process
Lebanon-Regional-European Union, Politics, 11/12/1999
The European Union ambassador in Lebanon, Dimitri Corkolas, asserted Europe's concern with the Middle East and the peace process in it, indicating the European commitment to the peace process through the role played by the special European envoy, Miguel Moratinos, and the positive leanings he finds among all sides.
Ambassador Corkolas said the international community's efforts currently aim at resuming the negotiations between Lebanon and Syria with Israel, refusing to depict the conditions through which the peace process passes.
He said it will not be surprising if there are obstacles to reaching the comprehensive peace, referring in televised statements today to the deep European concern for nourishing the stability in the Middle East and seeking to overcome hardships to push the peace process forward.
