Khartoum gets American document to partition Sudan, sources
Sudan-USA, Politics, 11/12/1999
Sudanese political sources said on Thursday that the Sudanese government has obtained an American document containing details of a plan drawn up to partition Sudan.
The sources added that the document included several articles, of which one states that John Garang's Sudanese People's Libeartion Army/Movement presides over any meeting of the northern and southern opposition with the government, which means the partition of Sudan and separating its south from its north, rather then finding a solution to the problems Sudan suffers from.
The document also calls for alienating the joint Libyan-Egyptian initiative so Egypt will be given the chance to take part in the IGAD (a group of African states) initiative as an observer.
The sources continued that having several initiatives will result in partitioning the opposition coalition, separating matters between the north and the south and singling out individuals from the northern opposition one by one so they will not have a united and strong position.
The sources continued that this document will result in the US having control of the situation as a whole, not only in Sudan but in the African Horn as a whole.
