Arab sports ministers study backing to Morocco's World Cup bid
Morocco-Regional, Sports, 11/11/1999

The executive committee of the Arab sports ministers council will meet in Rabat on Nov. 17-19 in Rabat to study backing for Morocco's bid to host the final rounds of the 2006 World Cup.

The committee, which meets in accordance with a council decision, musters Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Syria, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan and Tunisia.

Morocco is competing with South Africa, Germany, England and Brazil to host the event. Observers believe that the race for winning the bid is actually between Morocco and South Africa, as the world football governing board wants to entrust an African country with hosting the World Cup.
