Egypt, Culture, 11/11/1999
French and Egyptian missions have made archeological finds in the waters off Alexandria.
"The European Institute for Marine Antiquities managed to reach an important find including an ancient port under the Eastern Port and Maamoura Bay in Alexandria, a 35-meter-long ship that dates back to the Roman era, Cleopatra palace floor and the royal palaces platforms that date back to the Ptolemaic era," said Ibrahim Darwish, director of archeology in Alexandria.
"The French mission also discovered legs of a statue that belongs to the Roman era, adjacent to Qaitbay citadel while the Greek mission discovered other antiquities currently under examination," he added.
The Egyptian mission found a group of fountains aboard a ship dating to the Islamic era, he added.
