U.N. human rights committee hails Morocco's human rights progress

The United Nations Human Rights Committee has hailed the progress scored by Morocco in the consolidation of human rights.
The committee, which has wound up its 76th session in Geneva, termed as positive the creation of a Human Rights Ministry and a human rights advisory council.
The committee also hailed the creation of an arbitration committee to assess compensations to detention victims and to the families of reported missing persons.
The U.N. body cited as positive actions the commutation of death punishment sentences delivered since 1994 and the new autopsy procedures for cases of death in custody.
The committee voiced satisfaction following the release of many prisoners, the delivery of passports to certain opponents and the return from exile of others as well as the establishment of medical examinations for detainees.
