Lebanon-Israel, Military, 11/10/1999

In retaliation for the continued Israeli attacks against south Lebanon, a Lebanese resistance group on Tuesday attacked an Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army militia engineering force that was carrying out fortification works inside the Israeli position in al-Sweida. In a statement, the resistance said it had scored direct hits.

Earlier in the day, Lebanese resistance forces attacked, using rockets, the Israeli military movements inside the Balat position in south Lebanon. Direct hits were achieved against the Israeli position, according to a statement by the resistance.

Another Lebanese resistance group attacked with machine guns and rockets the joint Israeli-SLA militia position in Rashaf. Direct hits were scored.

On Tuesday, the Israeli occupation forces bombarded, using heavy artillery, al-Tasse river area, the surroundings of Habboush bridge, Sujoud al-Rayhan woods and al-Jabal al-Rafee hills.

Lebanese security sources said the Israeli bombardment coincided with intensive flights by Israeli warplanes over the western and central sectors and al-Tuffah district and carried out mock and provocative raids.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli forces bombarded the outskirts of Srebin, Yater and al-Rashaf district and carried out mopping up operations against al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoun and Beyout al-Seyyad towns in the western sector of south Lebanon.

Lebanese security sources said the Israeli warplanes dropped two missiles against the targeted area. No casualties were reported. In the afternoon the Israeli warplanes broke the sound barrier over the capital, Beirut.

Meanwhile, the Israeli jets continued their flights in Lebanese airspace, accompanied by helicopters over al-Abbad, al-Manara, Markaba, and Haula in the occupied part of south Lebanon.
