Palestinian source: Barak obstructs final status negotiations
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 11/9/1999
A Palestinian source said Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak started shaking the confidence in the Palestinian final status negotiations, saying there are issues seen as "red lines," on which no concessions are to be made. These issues include Jerusalem as Israel's eternal capital.
The source added that the Palestinians and Israelis agreed to resume the negotiations regarding Jerusalem, the settlements, water, borders and the refugees on Thursday and that Barak opposes the refugees' return, and asserts that Jerusalem is Israel's capital.
The sources also said, "The negotiations with Barak are very tough and not promising, and the support of all the Arab and Islamic states in the negotiations is required so that the Palestinian leadership does not submit to the pressures."
The sources continued, "The Palestinian opposition must support its leadership or to stop doing any terrorism work, because this will be a means of pressure on the Palestinians and not on the Israelis."
