Arab League supports Syrian stance toward peace talks
Regional, Politics, 11/8/1999
Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid expressed the league's support for the Syrian stance toward resuming peace talks with Israel from their stopping point, saying that peace is not a gift presented by Israel to the Arabs because peace is in Israel's interest as well as in the Arab states' interests.
Abdul Meguid also denounced the Israeli attacks on south Lebanon.
Regarding Mauritania's decision to raise the level of its relations with Israel, he said this procedure forms a violation of resolutions of the Arab summit and the Arab League council.
