British parliament Galloway's caravan in Iraq
Iraq-UK, Politics, 11/8/1999
On his second day in Iraq, British Parliament member George Galloway visited the children's hospital in Baghdad and he, together with members of his accompanying delegation, inspected the pavilion which accommodates leukemia-infected children.
Iraqi children and men headed to the hotel where Galloway stays as asked him to help in treating their children who suffer dangerous diseases.
The Caravan which is led by Galloway received upon crossing the Jordanian- Iraqi borders a warm popular welcome at al-Qadeseyah complex.
The Iraqi News Agency quoted Galloway, who is accompanied by some 12 British dignitaries, as saying that delegations from France, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Libya and Jordan, are accompanying the caravan as an expression of their solidarity with the campaign launched to lift the embargo imposed on Iraq and refusing the continued US-British attacks against it.
Galloway started his trip on September 9 in a coach started from London. So far he has stopped in five Arab states. He called this trip Mariam after an Iraqi child infected with leukemia who was treated in Britain at his own initiative.
Last Monday Galloway visited the five year old girl Mariam Hamzeh at the cancer treatment center in Amman, where she was admitted following a health setback.
