Iraqi paper calls on Gulf states to help lift sanctions
Iraq-Gulf, Politics, 11/8/1999

The Iraqi daily al-Thawra issued on Monday called on the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council to help lift the embargo imposed on Iraq during their Sunday meeting in Riyadh. The Iraqi paper added that the "Riyadh meeting should be fair and objective in calling for lifting the siege and halting the US-British aggression against Iraq."

The paper asserted that debating the issue of lifting the sanctions cannot be done from the US angle, saying that this issue should be dealt with without foreign pressure, especially as Iraq has fulfilled all its obligations.
