Moroccan official elected vice-president of IS executive committee

Mrs. Nouzha Chekrouni, representative of the women section within the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) has been elected Friday vice-president of the executive committee of the women's International Socialist for the western Mediterranean region.
In her address before the women's IS 17th congress, held in Paris November 4-6, Mrs Chekrouni --who is secretary of state for disabled persons-- surveyed Morocco's efforts to update the legal texts related to women and adapt them to the changes of the situation of women in the world.
She also underlined ongoing drives to effectively integrate women in decision-making and in the development process.
Mrs Chekrouni is to chair this Saturday the meeting of the commission entrusted with implementing the resolutions of the Beijing conference on education, struggle against poverty and woman integration in working life.
She will equally chair the meeting of west Mediterranean countries (Algeria, France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Saint-Marin, Spain, and Tunisia). This meeting is held prior to an extraordinary session of the Women's International Socialist to be held in New York in June 2000.
