France supports Moroccan concerns over sea resources

France expressed on Friday support to the Moroccan concerns to safeguard its sea resources while stressing the need to continue to back strong and balanced Euro-Moroccan relations.

In a joint statement released at the end of the 3rd annual meeting of the high joint commission (Nov.4-5), chaired by the two countries' prime ministers, France renewed will to favor Morocco's full integration in the European Union with which an association agreement will be in force in 2000.

According to the document, Morocco has talked French interlocutors into the need to grant its due importance to agriculture export in the agreement enforcement.

After the two countries stressed the importance that they grant to partnership between Europe and the Mediterranean as a major contribution to peace, stability and prosperity in the region, they voiced resolve to join efforts for the success of the upcoming 4th Barcelona conference to be held in the second half of 2000.

Regarding multilateral trade negotiations, France and Morocco said they will coordinate their stances so as to reach a balance between market opening and the need to abide by the rules regulating international economic exchanges.

Morocco and France also argued that the upcoming WTO negotiations cycle should lead to a complete integration of less advanced countries in international exchanges.

Renewing their attachment to cultural diversity, they said culture should not be handled as mere goods and states should be given the freedom to design and enforce cultural policies.
