In protest against Israeli suppression, Syrian prisoners in Golan threaten open hunger strike
Syria-Israel, Politics, 11/6/1999

The Syrian prisoners of the occupied Golan in Israeli prisons threatened an open hunger strike unless their situations are improved and "injustice is lifted up," said Medhat El-Saleh, a member of the Syrian People's Assembly who leads a campaign to reform their situation.

El-Saleh said that tensions prevail in the Israeli prisons due to the inspection campaign and suppression against the Syrian detainees, adding that those in charge in the prisons confiscated the detainees' personal belongings and poured oil and tea on their clothes in a campaign to suppress the detainees.

He added that the Israeli prisons' administration prevented the families of Syrian detainees in the occupied Golan from visiting their sons for a month and a half, which stirred the detainees' anxiety.
