$100,000 prize for the best Arabic film in Bahrain cinema festival
Bahrain, Culture, 11/6/1999
Bahrain club for cinema in cooperation with the Ministry of Information and the Cabinet decided to establish the first Bahraini cinema festival for displaying Arabic films.
The festival will grant a monetary prize for the best film that wins the golden prize for the festival.
Bassam El-Zawawi, the manager of the festival, said that the suggested period for establishing the festival is from March 29 through April 4, 2000 and that at least 20 Arabic films will participate from Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Lebanon and Syria, in addition to Arab cinema professionals who reside in Europe, Australia, Canada and the USA.
There is no cinema industry in Bahrain for many religious and social considerations, despite the existence of 30 cinematic directors who graduated from cinema institutes in Egypt, Russia, France, the UK and the USA.
