Moroccan-French high joint commission holds third session
Morocco-France, Politics, 11/5/1999
The Moroccan-French high joint commission opened its third session in Fes on Thursday under the cochairmanship of the two countries' prime ministers, Abderrahmane Youssoufi and Lionel Jospin.
The two countries are scheduled to sign this Friday a package of conventions and protocols before holding an inter-governmental seminar on upcoming European, Euro-Mediterranean and multilateral major events.
Youssoufi and Jospin had on Thursday a first round of talks while the ministers accompanying Jospin held work sessions with their Moroccan peers.
Talks were held between Moroccan and French foreign ministers, Mohamed Benaissa and Hubert Vedrine, between justice ministers, Omar Azziman and Elizabeth Guigou, between French Minister of External Trade Francois Huwart and Moroccan Minister of Trade, Industry and Handicraft Alami Tazi and between the French minister of cooperation and francophony, Charles Josselin, and the Moroccan secretary of state for cooperation, Aicha Belarbi.
Moroccan-French military cooperation was also reviewed at a meeting between French Defense Minister Alain Richard and Moroccan Minister of National Defense Administration Abderrahmane Sbai.
The two socialist prime ministers are to fly this Friday noon to Marrakesh for a meeting with King Mohammed VI. Results of the commission's works will be presented to the press in Marrakesh.
Upon arrival Thursday at the airport of Fes where he was received by Youssoufi, Jospin said cooperation between the two countries "exists, continues and is developing," expressing joy to meet the Moroccan prime minister for the second time and to meet King Mohammed VI, whom he had met in Paris while he was still crown prince and with whom he will establish new relations.
After he paid tribute to the late King Hassan II whose passing away "has caused deep sorrow," the French premier said the two delegations will work hard for two days to consolidate cooperation between the two countries.
