Seventy German newlyweds spend honeymoon in Morocco
Morocco, Economics, 11/4/1999
Thirty five German new couples and some of their relatives are spending their honeymoon in the Moroccan Atlantic sea resort of Agadir, accompanied by more than 40 print and audio-visual journalists.
Upon arrival at the airport of Agadir, the group was treated to a traditional Moroccan welcome, giving them a taste of Moroccan hospitality.
According to promoters, the operation, marking the beginning of the winter season in the city, means to help the city recover its traditional German customers.
The group, comprising 120 visitors, will discover, in addition to the city's seaside and tourism sites, the neighboring cities of Essaouira and Marrakesh.
The German partner in the operation will start servicing four weekly flights, bringing the number of expected arrivals to 720 more each week. However, warns a Moroccan tour operator this could again lead to the over-booking problem since the city accommodation capacity hardly exceeds 18,000 beds.
Meanwhile, it was announced that tourism compounds will be built to provide an additional 3,200 new beds by 2002.
A German tour-operator "Neckerman" presented its project to build a 1,000 bed-compound for a $ 29 million investment.
