Bouteflika pardons 6,683 prisoners

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Wednesday pardoned 6,683 prisoners on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Algerian revolution of 1945, according to an official Algerian source.
The source added that all persons included in the pardon were released, including 167 who were sentenced over being convicted of carrying out activities linked to the Armed Islamic Group (GIA).
The Algerian source added that this pardon "embodies the desire of the President to lead the march of civil concord firmly so as to enable those who benefit from it to merge into the society."
