Kuwaiti premier gets a message from Egyptian counterpart
Kuwait-Egypt, Politics, 11/4/1999
Egyptian Minister of Labor Affairs and Migration Ahmad al-Amawi on Wednesday in Kuwait discussed with Kuwaiti Prime Minister and Crown Prince Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah the confrontation that took place between Egyptian demonstrators and Kuwaiti security forces.
Al-Amawi arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday, accompanied by Egyptian officials from the ministries of foreign affairs and the interior to discuss the conditions of the Egyptian workers in Kuwait following the riots that took place in the country on Saturday.
For his part, Kuwaiti Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Suleiman Majid al-Shahin said that "individual incidents" happen frequently that do not affect or undermine the strong relations between Kuwait and Egypt. He added that the Kuwaiti- Egyptian viewpoints concerning ways of dealing with the acts of riots are identical, adding, "We do not want to give al-Kheitan district incident greater importance than what it is. It was a dispute between an Egyptian worker and another Bengali one that developed into clashes."
The Egyptian and the Kuwaiti delegations agreed on some points, one of which was a visit to be paid by a Kuwaiti delegation to Cairo soon to remove any hard feelings that might result between the two people.
Egyptian Minister of Labor Ahmed El-Amawi said this visit comes because of "the sad events took place in the al-Kheitan area in Kuwait, which had no deliberate reasons or any justification," adding that there are mutual messages between the two countries' prime ministers to handle any negative effects of these events, confirming Kuwait's endearment and support for Egyptian labor and their role in achieving stability and development.
